Pastor Brad Penner, Senior Interim Pastor
B-day: May 21, 1955
Place of Birth: Hillsboro, KS
Family: Vi and I both grew up on dairy farms, dated in High School and married the summer after my freshman year in college. Four years after we married, we {family of four} moved to Calico Rock, Arkansas for five years. I worked as an Emergency Medical Tech in a small Hospital and Vi was a stay at home mom. It was here I tested God's call regarding the ministry. I have been in ministry since 1984 and Vi continues doing secretarial work in our various ministry locations. In March 2005 I began a six month sabbatical and Vi began working at Newton Medical Center. In Oct. 2005 I started doing interim ministry while Vi continued working in Newton. In July 2007 I came as interim to FMB, in January 2008 Vi moved here to join me.
We have two sons. Bryan is married to Karri and they have three granddaughters... Emily, Addison and Lacy. Bryan is an RN working at St. Francis Hosp. in Wichita in the Special Procedures Unit. Karri is a certified teacher, now working two days a week as a pre-school teacher. Michael is married to Sarah. They live in Hutchinson. Mike works as a Micro-Biologist for a Lab in Hutch. Sarah is a stay at home mom with Lacy. She works several evenings or weekends a month with the Hutch EMS.
Hobbies:I usually do odd jobs around the house, keep the vehicles in good repair...GO FISHING, play with the granddaughters and study for my degree work.
Favorite Verse: Matthew 11:28-30 and 1 Peter 5:6-7 "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 "For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." 1 Peter 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
Short Bio on coming to Ministry: I accepted Jesus as Savior March 18, 1972 and committed my life to him the Lord of my life on April 17, 1972 at the Tabor Youth Conf. It was then God called me to ministry, I didn't realize it or want to acknowledge until about five years later. After the five years in Arkansas we moved back to Hillsboro and I concluded my BA at Tabor in Religious Studies while serving at my first church.
Fun interesting facts of yourself: Vi says she was drawn to me because I am an outgoing, fun loving and persistent. For some reason, the persistent part isn't as attractive to her as it used to be... imagine that. I love humor and try using it in sermons, but for some reason when Bryan and Mike were still living at home, they would usually slide down in the church pew when while preaching I tried to tell a story which was supposed to be funny. I just don't understand it!
