Hobbies: I enjoy restoring old things like farm toys and pedal tractors. I also like drinking Mountain Dew, jogging, riding my moped, reading historical non-fiction, and playing sports.
Favorite Verse:John 3:30- "He must become more, I must become less." (John the Baptist talking about Jesus)
Short Bio on coming to Ministry: : I never had an inkling of being in ministry until I got hurt in a farming accident around my 8th grade year. I had a serious leg injury and didn't know if I would have the full use of my foot and leg afterwards. For some reason, as I laid in the hospital bed I kept thinking that I could still help people. Maybe I wouldn't be a pro basketball player like I had planned, but I could still be a motivational speaker or something. That was the start of it, but it wasn't until my freshman year at Tabor College that I actually gave up on sports. I decided not to go out for basketball even though I was on a scholarship to play there. I took time to pray and just think. It was then that I took my first "Bible classes" at Tabor and realized that I had a hunger to learn about God. In a very short amount of time I declared a Bible major and found myself working with the youth at the Hillsboro MB church. I was an intern there for 3 years. After getting married and graduating from college I accepted the Youth Pastor position at Kingwood Bible Church in Salem, Oregon where we lived for 5 years. Our desire to move back closer to home amongst other things led us to the Youth Pastor position at Enid, OK where we were for 3 years. Now God has answered all kinds of prayers in sending us to the Fairview MB Church.
Fun facts about Travis:
Lisa and I met each other on a blind date. I was a junior in high school and she was a sophomore and we were set up by a mutual friend. We went to see the movie "Cool Runnings" and had such a good time with each other that we've been together ever since.
I've been knocked out 5 or 6 times, I think.
My brothers' names are Durango Yron and Jake Steel. Can you guess what my middle name is?
I love traditional Mennonite food such as verenika, sausage, bierocks, borscht, cherry moos, cracklings, and sparkling grape juice.
I own eight pedal tractors and I've ridden them all.
